The Secret Drawing Club presents a unique blend of innovative, immersive Life Drawing salons; living tableaux inspired by the canon of Art History and Human Culture.
Over the past year The Secret Drawing Club has enlivened the life drawing format with new vigour and extraordinary attention to detail, delivering events around the county to a wide array of artists and makers. Striving to create a convivial creative environment for their participants to enjoy, using thematic subjects to inform their tableaux, which are complimented with a bespoke playlist curated for the occasion. Themes are thoughtfully transcribed into a dramatic and sensual experience that inspires and enthrals the audience.
There are a broad and varied set of influences from Modernism, Renaissance, Baroque, Romanticism to popular Literary and Visual Culture; including a full scale Raft of The Medusa, Millais’ Ophelia, Sante Muerte, Japonisme, Alice in Wonderland and the works of Toulouse-Lautrec, Frida Kahlo, Paula Rego, Diego Velasquez. As well as a tribute to the days of Disco with Studio 54, explorations of light with Caravaggio and Vermeer, the Odalisque through the centuries, Dickens’ Ms. Havisham, Delacroix’s ‘Liberty leading the People’ to name but a few. Scenes are regularly enhanced by extraordinary props and set pieces, which add to the sense of immersion in their vision presented for the delectation of their participants.
“A great challenge to artists of all levels, I haven’t done any life drawing for many years but I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do” – Kate Smith
